We have received reports of a number of small fires in the Birchwood woodland areas (Hartsholme Park. Swanholme Lake, and Wentworth Way) with a larger fire in the Skellingthorpe woodland area which has led to the a road being closed on the A46 between Damons roundabout and Skellingthorpe roundabout.
Initial investigations have found aerosol cans and a lighter at one of the fire sites.
With woodland and grassland extremely dry due to the prolonged hot weather, even a small spark can quickly develop into a significant fire, putting people, wildlife and property at risk. We would urge parents, carers and the wider community to speak to young people about the dangers and consequences of starting fires.
While many people are looking for ways to cool down in the heat, we also want to remind everyone of the dangers of swimming in lakes and open water. Conditions beneath the surface can be unpredictable and potentially life-threatening.
Please take a moment to familiarise yourself and your family with the essential water safety advice from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, which is pinned to the top of our Facebook page.
